A remarkable George III mahogany open armchair, crafted in the style of Chippendale and dating back to around 1775. It stands at an impressive height of 96cm, with dimensions of 63cm in width and 55cm in depth. The seat itself measures 44cm in height, providing comfortable seating. 

This exquisite piece boasts an intriguing provenance, having originated from a private collection in London. It bears resemblance to a side chair featuring a 'Catherine Wheel' chair back, as illustrated in Christopher Gilbert's renowned publication "The Life & Work of Thomas Chippendale," Volume II, with reference to plate 164. Notably, a chair of similar design was commissioned for rooms at Paxton.
